At UALI, we believe technology is a key ally in enhancing efficiency and safety within the industry. Together with Techint E&C, we are leading a project that implements cargo drones for material logistics, optimizing time, reducing risks, and taking another step toward the intelligent automation of operations. To explore the impact of these technologies and what’s ahead for the sector, we spoke with Alejandro Martín Aguirre, Innovation Sr. Manager at Techint E&C. In this interview, he shares his insights on technological trends and the challenges of digital transformation in the industry.

The Impact of Automation, Robotics, and AI

When it comes to efficiency and cost reduction, Aguirre emphasizes that automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence are here to stay. These technologies not only optimize processes but also enhance operational safety and reduce costs.

One of the biggest challenges in the industry is pioneering the implementation of technological solutions without prior precedents. Through these trials, the necessary experience is gained to successfully scale new solutions.

"A thorough interdisciplinary analysis and resources are required to conduct proof-of-concept tests in real-world scenarios," Aguirre points out.

Digital Transformation and Sustainability

According to Aguirre, digital transformation is closely linked to reducing environmental impact. However, he warns that implementing new tools without a deep process analysis can be a mistake.

"Digital transformation must happen in an orderly manner, identifying the biggest pain points to find the right solutions," he asserts.

The Role of Human Talent in the Age of Automation

The introduction of technologies such as robotics and artificial intelligence does not eliminate the human factor; rather, it redefines its role.

"New technologies should act as productivity multipliers," explains Aguirre.

In this context, training is essential so that workers can focus on higher-value tasks and move away from those involving risks or high repetitiveness.

Aguirre envisions a future where the industry moves toward more autonomous operations and data-driven designs.

"Real-time data processing, combined with artificial intelligence, will play a crucial role in operational efficiency," he concludes.
